I think we’ve all felt anxiety from time to time, but if anxiety is keeping you up at night or you can’t calm down when you’re trying to go to bed, a weighted blanket might be the answer. I love how weighted blankets can relieve anxiety and promote better rest, so I’m really excited to be taking a look at a weighted blanket from one of the biggest names in the sleep game: Casper .

Casper is famous for their bed-in- a-box mattresses, but in this review, I’ll be going over the construction and feel of the Casper weighted blanket , as well as give some recommendations about who I think should consider buying it, based on my experience of testing it out. This blanket has a lot of positive customer reviews , but how will it fare in my Sleepopolis tests?

Just looking for the highlights? Skip to the end for my review summary!

The Casper weighted blanket is a cozy cotton weighted blanket filled with batting fill and microbeads.

Now there’s a lot of materials that can be used to make a weighted blanket and different materials will have different feels. So let’s talk about what the Casper weighted blanket is made of.

Outer Shell: The outer shell of the Casper weighted blanket is made of 100% cotton with a twill weave. That fabric has a thread count of 205, which is pretty mid-range for a twill weave fabric.

Inner Lining: The inner lining of the blanket is what holds the fill. This inner lining is made from 100% polyester and also has a twill weave. The inner lining fabric has a thread count of 140.

Batting Fill: The Casper weighted blanket has a batting fill, which I haven’t seen in many other weighted blankets , but is common in quilts as a layer of insulation. The batting fill in this blanket is 100% polyester fiber that has a weight of 90 grams per square meter.

Microbead Fill: The fill of the Casper weighted blanket is glass microbeads, which are what gives the blanket its weight. As the name implies, these microbeads are quite small!

The Casper weighted blanket also utilizes gridded stitching, or a quilted design , to keep the fill evenly distributed throughout the blanket. Essentially, each rectangle of the grid contains some fill, so the beads can’t pool on one side of the blanket.

The Casper weighted blanket is available in three different weight options: 10, 15, and 20 lb. All three weights come in the same size, which is 50” x 70”.  I tested the 15 lb blanket for this review.

When choosing a weighted blanket , you want to choose one that is close to 10% of your own body weight . That weight ratio will allow you to experience Deep Pressure Touch, which is the name for the effect that weighted blankets have on our bodies. It’s the same sensation we get from hugging or cuddling that encourages production of serotonin and melatonin and reduces production of cortisol to calm our bodies down.

So if you weigh 150 pounds, the 15 lb blanket would be the perfect option for you to experience Deep Pressure Touch! However, I’ll add here that kids should not use the Casper weighted blanket , as the weight options are too heavy for them. Kids usually need a lower weight ratio, so I’d recommend consulting your child’s doctor about what weight ratio would be safest.

I personally tested the Casper weighted blanket out at home, so here are my takeaways on what it feels like.

I thought the outer cover of the Casper weighted blanket had a really nice, smooth feel. While I am usually a fan of all things fluffy and fuzzy, I really liked the smooth feel and thought it would be a nice alternative for those who don’t love fuzzy blankets, but still want something soft and cozy.

I also noticed that this weighted blanket is considerably thinner than some other weighted blankets I’ve tested. It doesn’t look nearly as heavy as it is. And honestly, the batting fill somewhat disguises the fact that there even are beads in this blanket. The beads feel mixed in with the fibrous batting fill, so you can’t feel them moving and you certainly don’t hear them clinking.

The gridded stitching used to partition the beads across the blanket worked really well to keep the weight distribution even as I was lying under it. I found the level of pressure to be quite comfortable.

While I was testing the Casper weighted blanket , I noticed that it has a very slight cool-to-the-touch feel. I think the cotton used in the outer shell works well to add some breathability to the blanket. And the fact that it’s a little on the thinner side helps to not trap so much heat. But, most of the interior is polyester, so I wouldn’t say this is a superb cooling blanket. I felt pretty t emperature neutral lying under it.

When you buy a new sleep product or accessory, you want to be sure it’s going to be something that will last. While testing the Casper weighted blanket , I thought the materials seemed pretty high-quality . However, one thing that I think detracts from the durability of this blanket is that it’s not machine washable. The outer cover cannot be removed and washed separately, as it can with many other weighted blankets . You can only spot clean this blanket.

I mentioned above that the Casper weighted blanket has some good color options, so let’s go over those. Color is an important factor when choosing bedding, as you’ll want it to match the rest of your bedroom, or living room, if you use it as a throw blanket . The Casper blanket I tested came in the Dusty Rose color, but the other options include Indigo, Gray, and Fireside, which is a reddish brown color.

It sure does! The Casper weighted blanket comes with a 30-night trial period During that trial, you can test the blanket out at home for 30 nights and if you decide it’s not for you, you can return it for a full refund.
